I have been drawing and painting figurative subjects almost since I first picked up a pencil. Some years ago I painted a few canvases that realistically portrayed a man and woman together, touching. I still like them, but it struck me “why paint people who I and nobody else knows?”
I examined my reasonings for why I executed the paintings in the first place (besides the obvious of painting beautiful bodies). I concluded that I was attracted to the concept of two people embracing and the loving emotions conveyed. This realization was the beginning of what I call the “Embrace Series”. The purpose/goal of these paintings are to express the emotion of an embrace without realistically rendering the human body or face. Conveying the “feelings” without executing “just another painting or photo of beautiful naked people” (a line I overheard at a gallery opening lol).
I have played with the styles somewhat over the years, but I think they still form a cohesive collection. I classify them as “Figurative Abstractions”. I am interested in receiving feedback on how you react to this series of paintings.
